Maria LaTorre

María C. Latorre is Associate Professor (with tenure) at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and member of the list of experts in international trade of the European Commission (11/11/2016-22/03/2025). María is currently Vice Dean for Research, Postgraduate Studies and International Affairs of the Faculty of Statistical Studies from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and member of the Self Steering Committee of the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence group in the Una Europa Alliance. She is co-chair of the study groups in Data Science and in Global Governance both from Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University as well as Research Fellow from this institution. She also leads jointly with Prof. Jan Wouters (KU Leuven) the “Una Europa Global Governance Research Group”.

Dr. Latorre holds a European PhD with an extraordinary award, as well as a MA in Economics from the University of Manchester. She has carried out consulting projects for the World Bank and the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, having analyzed the economic impact of the EU-Mercosur Agreement and of Brexit on Spain, for that Ministry. Maria has been a Research Scholar at the Center for International Development at the Harvard Kennedy School. She has held other research visiting positions in the CEPII, the US International Trade Commission and the University of Nottingham. Recently, her co-authored paper on Brexit has received the Best Paper Award 2020 in the International Economics area of the scientific journal: Economic Modelling” and another co-authored paper on Brexit has received the Emerald Literati Award in 2019 in the category “Highly Commended Paper Award”.
