Large territorial and demographic disparities have constituted obstacles to the integration and development of the European Union from the very beginning. Strengthening economic, social and territorial cohesion and, especially, reducing disparities between the levels of development of its various regions is crucial for promoting the development of the Union. In her role as European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira will speak about the Commission’s efforts to achieve a deeper integration in a more just Union.

Ferreira will argue about the importance of solidarity among Member States and the key role that working with co-legislators has in the efforts to establish a legislative framework for Cohesion Funds in the long-term EU budget.

Every three years, the European Commission presents a report on progress made towards achieving economic and social cohesion and the part played in this by EU policies. As the current European Commission charts the way for the next five years, Commissioner Ferreira will explain what EU policies are being adopted, including those to ensure that Europe invests and supports the regions and the people most affected by the digital and climate transitions as well as speak about the most pressing challenges that must be tackled in order to ensure more uniform development and greater integration across the European Union.
