RCC is pleased to announce this talk featuring Margarida Afonso, member of the Legal Service of the European Commission and Fellow at Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University.Despite of the fact that the role of the legal experts in international or supranational organizations is often unknown, they can play a key role, for both the efficiency of the organization and for the capacity of delivering policies. This general assessment is particularly true in the case of the European Union and the European Commission for being the most powerful supranational executive body in the world. This lecture will explain what is the Legal Service of the European Union, what are its specific and unique tasks and what role does it play within the European Commission and the overall machinery of the European Union.
