Start-ups are among the current top priorities for economic growth. However, about 50% of new businesses fail in their first years, conflicts between co-founders and effects of work stress being two of the top reasons for failure.
The aim of this talk is to give an overview of the findings from the H2020 Marie Sklodowska Curie project “Starflict” (Conflicts in start-ups: coping with stress and conflicts to promote well-being and entrepreneurial success), obtained on the basis of qualitative and quantitative data. Specifically, this talk will focus on: (a) the development of a typology of conflicts in startups and of an assessment tool for measuring these; (b) the study of triggers of psychological and physiological stress outcomes; and (c) factors that can prevent conflict escalation in start-up top teams. Finally, this talk will be an opportunity for reflection on how to positively and constructively deal with stress and conflict in start-ups to boost creative energy and promote team growth.
