Artificial Intelligence in Education Unplugged: Leapfrogging the Digital Divide to Reach the Underserved

Date:

Wednesday, March 13, 2024, 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Location:

RCCHU Conference Room, 26 Trowbridge St, Cambridge, and over Zoom

This lecture will focus on the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED), especially in addressing the challenges faced by environments with resource constraints, typically found in global south countries or underserved communities. Our focus will be on the definition of "AIED Unplugged," a innovative approach designed to integrate AI technologies into existing school settings without necessitating infrastructural changes, stable internet access, or advanced digital skills. We will explore a case study from Brazil, where this approach has significantly enhanced students' writing skills across 7,000 schools, benefiting over 500,000 students.
