Assistant Professor at University of Seville in the department of Spanish and Latin American Literature (Faculty of Philology).
PhD and a Master of Arts in Spanish Literature by the Complutense University in Madrid.

Her doctoral thesis on Spanish Renaissance Poetry (studied the Horatian verse epistle and the classical thought and the self-fashioning in this genre. It obtained the Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado in 2016 and was published in 2020 in Peter Lang as Conversaciones en verso. La epístola ética del Renacimiento y la construcción del yo poético. Clara’s area of expertise is the Renaissance poetry, the Balladry and the Writing of the Self.

Before joining University of Seville in 2021, she was awarded with Spanish Ministry of Education Pre-doc and Post-doc fellowships and she has research and taught in the University of Münster (Germany), Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and Universidad de Burgos. She has been a visiting researcher in University of Oxford, University of Edinburgh, Université Paris-Sorbonne and Università Federico II di Napoli, and now she is in Harvard thanks to the RCC Harvard University Faculty Grants for Short-Term Funded Visits.

Clara Marías belongs to the research group in Renaissance and Baroque Poetry PASO https://grupo.us.es/paso/ and the to the research project +PoeMAS. MÁS POEsía para MÁS gente. La poesía en la música popular contemporánea, https://poemas.uned.es.

She has published her work in publishers as Brill, Reichenberger, Springer or Peter Lang and in academic journals such as Revista de Filología Española, Neophilologus, Criticón, Studia Aurea, Ínsula or Castilla.

At the University of Seville she teaches 20th and 21th centuries Literature, Creative Writing, Writings of the Self, and Literature, Music and Media, among other courses.
