Begoña Peiro Salvador
Begoña Peiro is an urban resilience and climate adaptation researcher and practitioner. She completed her Doctorate in Environmental Studies at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, where her research examined relocation policy as a form of climate adaptation and its implications for communities exposed to environmental risk and displacement in Uruguay. At Harvard, Begoña has been a fellow in different research centers and programs, including the Real Colegio Complutense, the Migration Research Cluster at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, the Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability, the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, the Joint Center for Housing Studies, and the Climate Leaders Program.
Before Harvard, Begoña worked with UN-Habitat as part of the Global Solutions Division, the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the Bangkok Office, and the Pacific Office. Her work focused on urban climate resilience, ecosystem-based adaptation, and informal settlements upgrading, collaborating with organizations including United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
She previously worked in architecture and urban planning offices in the Netherlands, leading projects recognized internationally, including by the International Architecture Award. Begoña holds an M.Sc. in International Cooperation from the International University of Catalunya and Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de València. She is also a recipient of the La Caixa Foundation Fellowship for Postgraduate Studies in North America and the Asia-Pacific region.
