Ana Juan

Ana Juan-García is Associate Professor of Toxicology at University of Valencia and Visiting Scholar at Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University. She is focusing on studying toxic effect of food contaminants (mycotoxins) at neuronal level through zebrafish (Danio rerio) model (early and late development stages). She holds a degree in Pharmacy and a PhD in Food Science both by University of Valencia.

Assoc. Prof. Juan-García has been a researcher involved in the toxicology field for more than 15 years. She has worked with different toxic compounds present in food, and more specifically with pesticides, antibiotics and mycotoxins. During her scientific career, Prof. Juan-García has been involved in contributing her leadership in toxicological science as current member of AETOX (Spanish Society of Toxicology), ESTIV (European Society of Toxicology In vitro) and SOT (Society of Toxicology-USA).

She obtained her International PhD at University of Valencia (Spain) –Cum Laude and PhD Extraordinary Award - with two grant predoctoral stays at University of Cagliari (Italy) and at Cork Institute of Technology (Ireland). Afterwards, she obtained a Postdoctoral Fulbright Grant from Ministry of Science and Innovation and Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Purdue University (Indiana, USA) for two years. At Purdue University she was under supervision of Prof. J. Paul Robinson (PUCL lab) and she was involved in the field of cytotoxicity, evaluating mechanisms, using flow cytometry technique and implementing the powerful of this technique in toxicological studies.

Prof. Juan-García focuses most of her research effort on evaluating mycotoxins toxicity through majorly in vitro but also in vivo assays. She has been involved in several research projects supported by the Ministry of Education and Science and from the Valencian Community and has published more than 40 research papers.
