RCC Postdoc Seminar: Git and GitHub: tools for collaborative work and reproducible projects

Date and Time

November 8, 2021
02:00PM - 03:00PM EST

Location

RCC Conference Room, 26 Trowbridge St., Cambridge MA & Online over Zoom

Git is an automated version control system and GitHub a hosting service for projects based on Git. Both tools are gaining more importance in the daily workflows of many researchers and some universities have even started to use them for their students to submit all coursework. In this seminar we will learn how Git can be used to track changes to projects or files and how this version control is especially useful in collaborative projects through the use of hosting services such as GitHub. The session will not aim to teach all the details of Git and GitHub, but to understand their logic, functionality and power so that anyone can then explore them further. Specifically we will learn: the benefits of using an automated version control system, the advantages of integrating version control and hosting services, and the basic workflow for using Git and GitHub from RStudio.
