The EU General Court, as a jurisdiction of the Court of Justice of the EU, is deciding on a lion share of applications challenging the acts of EU institutions and bodies, has seen a significant number of cases initiated by companies or individuals based in third countries, including the USA. It is noteworthy that even countries themselves have attempted to intervene in cases before the EU General Court, as for example the United States of America in the T‑892/16 Apple v. Commission. The reason for this is the global effects of EU law.
In a number of areas, the EU has been not only a pioneer in regulation but has also affected the development of global standards. Judge Perišin will give concrete examples from the case law of the EU General Court on how EU law has global effects in the following fields: environmental protection, climate change, food standards, privacy and data protection, justice systems of neighbouring countries, etc.
