RCC Associate María Victoria Vaello Rodríguez will present this lecture on Ancient Greek Dionysiac festivals.

Every year people of Attica participated in a number of religious festivals organized by public authorities. In the Classical Period (5th-4th centuries BCE), four of these festivals were dedicated to Dionysos, the god of wine and theatre. Such celebrations were the Anthesteria, the Lenaia, the City Dionysia and the Rural Dionysia, which included parades, theatrical competitions, wine drinking and animal sacrifices, among other things.

This event is co-sponsored by The Greek Institute.
