The transfer of knowledge from the university to the business world has become an essential component of innovation in in higher education. One of the most common ways for this to happen, as a complement of the collaboration with large companies, is the creation of startups and spin-offs that come directly from an academic environment. In recent years, Complutense University of Madrid has developed several programs to promote entrepreneurship through the Compluemprende office and the UCM-Santander entrepreneurship center. One of the projects that Compluemprende has supported in order to take advantage of knowledge developed inside the University and transferred into society is Crowtec.
Crowtec is a software and hardware development studio that has taken advantage of University technology and knowledge in order to create a company, founded in Madrid by three computer engineers, and that uses technology innovation to develop games, interactive experiences, intelligent applications and "other cool ways of using technology" in the words of one of its co-founders, Meriem El Yamri. In this talk, she will showcase some of their projects and explain their process of creation and their links to know-how and innovation that comes from inside the university.
