Marina Barba Aliaga holds a PhD in Biotechnology and Biomedicine from University of Valencia and is currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the RCC, starting on September 2024. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology from the University of Valencia (2017), and a Master’s Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine from University Complutense of Madrid (2018).

After becoming a FPU research fellow at the University of Valencia (2019-2023) she focused her research on translation and gene expression regulation under the supervision of Professors Paula Alepuz and José Enrique Pérez Ortín. During this time she also worked as a visiting scholar at the University of California San Diego (2022) under the supervision of Professor Brian M. Zid, where she gained knowledge on studying the mitochondrial function. After this, she continued her research at University of Valencia as a Junior PhD researcher for a year (2023-2024).

Currently, as a RCCH postdoctoral fellow, she is carrying forward a research project on protein folding dynamics under the supervision of Professor Vlad Denic at the department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University. This project aims to uncover the molecular function of the Ataxin-10 protein, related to the development of spinocerebellar ataxia syndrome.
