Marco Antonio Santamaría Álvarez
Marco Antonio Santamaría Álvarez is a Visiting Scholar in the Department of the Classics at Harvard University for the Spring Semester 2017.He has been Associate Professor of Greek Language and Literature at the University of Salamanca since 2009. He studied Classical Philology at the same University and during his PhD he was visiting scholar in Munich, Zürich, Oxford and Paris.
He has been director of two research projects on Greek eschatology and cosmogony, has organized several academic conferences and has supervised ten Master’s Theses.
His research activity is focused on Greek religion, Orphism, afterlife conceptions and their influence in Greek Literature, especially in epic and lyric poetry, early philosophers, and comedy. He is currently working on the Derveni Papyrus, myths of the origin and the end, and the development of the allegorical interpretation of poetry in Greece.
