SUMMARY:Connected Histories and Digital Humanities: A Necessary Integration
DESCRIPTION:<p>RCC is pleased to announce this talk presented and organized by <a href="https://upo.academia.edu/MontserratCachero" data-url="https://upo.academia.edu/MontserratCachero">Montserrat Cachero Vinuesa</a>, Visiting Fellow at the <a href="http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~histecon/visiting_fellows15_16.htm" data-url="http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~histecon/visiting_fellows15_16.htm">Joint Center for History and Economics at Harvard.</a><!--break--></p><p>Abstract: It has been more than a decade since Sanjay Subrahmanyam coined the term Connected Histories to refer to a method of historical research. This approach shuns the divisions delineated by state borders to focus instead on relations, movements, transfers, and even continuities that have long been ignored or marginalised.</p><p>Simultaneously, the development of new tools in information technologies and their application to the humanities gave rise to a new field of research known as Digital Humanities. Digital Humanities allows us to map complex social interaction, to disaggregate and combine histories and to study dynamics placing time and space in the core of the analysis.</p><p>This panel seeks to integrate technology with historical narratives, connecting histories and mapping them. We will discuss the achievements of the present and the challenges for the future. All researchers are welcome.</p><p><strong>Participants</strong>: <a href="https://upo.academia.edu/MontserratCachero" data-url="https://upo.academia.edu/MontserratCachero">Prof. Montserrat Cachero</a>, <a href="http://history.fas.harvard.edu/people/sunil-amrith" data-url="http://history.fas.harvard.edu/people/sunil-amrith">Prof. Sunil Amrith</a> (Center for History and Economics, Harvard), <a href="http://history.fas.harvard.edu/people/emma-rothschild" data-url="http://history.fas.harvard.edu/people/emma-rothschild">Prof. Emma Rothschild</a> (Center for History and Economics, Harvard), <a href="http://scholar.harvard.edu/smail/home" data-url="http://scholar.harvard.edu/smail/home">Prof. Daniel Smail</a> (Harvard).</p><p><em>Reception to follow.</em></p><p><strong>Sponsor:</strong> <a href="internal:/rcc.harvard.edu">Real Colegio Complutense</a> </p><p><strong>Contact:</strong> <a href="mailto:///rcc@harvard.edu">Kim Conant</a></p>
