RCC is pleased to announce this talk by Dr José Manuel Rey, Visiting Scholar at the Department of Psychology at Harvard University, Professor of Economics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and RCC Fellow.
There is a general agreement that divorce rates have reached epidemic levels in the West. This phenomenon is not well understood and poses a substantial problem for modern Western societies and, in turn, for social sciences. A general mechanism recently unveiled by a mathematical model may help explain the intrinsic difficulty to sustain a relationship projected to endure.
In this talk, Prof. Rey will present the basic ideas underlying the model, while exploring its implications. In particular, the model may explain why relationships that were planned to last forever eventually break down.
