SUMMARY:Is it Possible to Make Love Last? A Mathematical Answer
DESCRIPTION:<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">RCC is pleased to announce this talk by Dr</span> <a href="internal:/people/jos%C3%A9-manuel-rey" data-url="http://rcc.harvard.edu/people/jos%C3%A9-manuel-rey">José Manuel Rey</a>, Visiting Scholar at the Department of Psychology at Harvard University, Professor of Economics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and RCC Fellow.<!--break--></span></p><p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: verdana, geneva;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">There is a general agreement that divorce rates have reached epidemic levels in the West. This phenomenon is not well understood and poses a substantial problem for modern Western societies and, in turn, for social sciences. </span><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">A general mechanism recently unveiled by a mathematical model may help explain the intrinsic difficulty to sustain a relationship projected to endure. </span><br><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;"> In this talk, Prof. Rey will present the basic ideas underlying the model, while exploring its implications. </span><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">In particular, the model may explain why relationships that were planned to last forever eventually break down.</span></span></p><p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Contact: <a href="mailto:///rcc@harvard.edu">rcc@harvard.edu</a></span></p>
