SUMMARY:Introducing the Think Tank “Future Policy Lab”
DESCRIPTION:
This event will introduce both the recently launched project “Future Policy Lab”, a Spanish public policy think tank, and its first report Derribando el dique de la meritocracia (“Breaking down the dam of meritocracy”), which sparked an intense debate in Spain around the notion and desirability of meritocracy as a principle. Focusing on what the study calls “natural” and “social” lotteries, the report attacks frontally the possibility that meritocracy could become an ideal for
resource allocation in any society. This report is complemented by fresh evidence that, drawing on micro-data, shows the actual rates of social mobility that exist in the country. In order to tackle this lack of social mobility, the report suggests moving beyond the frame of education to focus on redistributive policies (such as a universal inheritance). In his talk, Bernardino León, director of Future Policy Lab and co-author of the report, will speak about the content of the report, the strategy behind the public campaing, and the upcoming projects of the think tank.

	<drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="ef255eaa-ab96-49a4-ab04-c49895e8f36b" alt="bernn"></drupal-media>
Speaker: Berna León (Director at Future Policy Lab, Teaching Associate at Sciences Po Paris and Affiliated Researcher at NYU)
Chair:Eve Denayer Cumplido (MS in Epidemiology student at Harvard’s T.H.
