SUMMARY:Pharaohs, Hieroglyphs, Mummies, and Scholars: Scientific Experiences of the University of Alcala Expedition to Egypt
DESCRIPTION:
Since 2015, the Middle Kingdom Theban Project has undertaken multidisciplinary works in a series of Middle Kingdom tombs of located in the area of Deir el-Bahari in Luxor. The outstanding position of the monuments, preliminary excavated in the 1920s by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the fundamental role that their owners played in the construction of the Egyptian state at the start of the Middle Kingdom, makes this project relevant and necessary for the understanding of what came to be the classical cultural period of ancient Egypt. As a matter of fact, most of the religious, social and cultural aspects known to the pharaonic culture in the later periods emerged in these times of social concord after civil conflicts and intellectual and religious progress. In these lectures, Antonio J. Morales (professor of Egyptology at the University of Alcalá) and Sergio Alarcón Robledo (PhD candidate in Harvard University) will show the results and main avenues of investigation of this international research project.

	<drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="7d2e7887-aecf-467a-ace8-599e6d4da3b0" alt="egypt"></drupal-media>

	PROGRAM:

	· 17:00 – 17:25 h

The University of Alcalá Expedition to Egypt: history, archaeology, and the engagement of multiple scientific disciplines by Antonio J.
