Universities globally have a commitment to equality of opportunities, but in what ways is that commitment being put into practice? What resources are being allocated for this purpose? Is the work of those who lead on inclusion in universities recognised and valued? Who are we talking about when we refer to inclusive universities? Many questions can be posed in this regard.
The debate on diversity in Spanish universities is quite recent, and even non-existent from a leadership perspective. In other contexts, such as the United States, there is a longer history, mainly focused on racial inequality. In this talk we will reflect on the attention to diversity at the universities in order to find out whether the mere existence of equality and diversity policies is considered synonymous with good institutional practices or whether universities are just content to fill in the checklist of non-inequality.
