SUMMARY:A Ray of Hope? Green Law and Policy in the EU
DESCRIPTION:<p>	The European Green Deal, “Fit for 55,” a carbon border tax, a European due diligence law—these are just some of the major initiatives on climate that the European Union has been debating over the last year. On paper at least, the EU is leading the pack on climate. And the €750bn EU Recovery Plan, which earmarks 37% for green projects, demonstrates that these are more than mere promises. But will it work, and is it enough? What does it mean for the US and the rest of the world? And what, if anything, can the current administration in Washington learn from the EU’s efforts on climate law and policy?</p><p>	<br>Through a conversation with leading scholars and analysts of the EU – Prof. Mehling (MIT/University of Strathclyde), Prof. Sjafjell (University of Oslo), Prof. Voigt (University of Oslo), Prof. Meckling (University of Berkeley/Yale University) – this event will explore recent developments in EU climate efforts.</p><p>	The discussion will focus on areas where Europe is breaking new ground: due diligence legislation covering private sector investment, a broadening and deepening emissions trading scheme, and a proposed carbon border tax.</p><p>	<br>The discussion will take place on <strong>Monday, 29 October 2021, 12:10 PM (EST).</strong> Register <a href="https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__harvard.us11.list-2Dmanage.com_track_click-3Fu-3De542f0e8ae082c95dd5a911ab-26id-3D36a2478f17-26e-3Ddf8ec23b09&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&amp;r=pTbR_WZUyO5mmKOOlgeC58qwNlXQTkfHQm0geIk1J0I&amp;m=UhSOby62-cXtAVNUkNozFZPuayqPaTlhoovXRqL6WW4nCwPdGC-nXpRmJ-gUrxTD&amp;s=rO53nf0Eup_o-cns6_RX4epZxJsKgbTvniLCGLHuQ00&amp;e=" target="_blank" title="https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__harvard.us11.list-2Dmanage.com_track_click-3Fu-3De542f0e8ae082c95dd5a911ab-26id-3D36a2478f17-26e-3Ddf8ec23b09&amp;d=DwMFaQ&amp;c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&amp;r=pTbR_WZUyO5mmKOOlgeC58qwNlXQTkfHQm0geIk1J0I&amp;m=UhSOby62-cXtAVNUkNozFZPuayqPaTlhoovXRqL6WW4nCwPdGC-nXpRmJ-gUrxTD&amp;s=rO53nf0Eup_o-cns6_RX4epZxJsKgbTvniLCGLHuQ00&amp;e=">here</a> for the zoom link.
