Europe proclaimed a “strategic partnership” with Latin America over two decades ago, but often the lack of action on this partnership has made it little more than a slogan.
With the recent exception of the recent EU-Mercosur agreement, which took years, Latin America has rarely been a priority for Europe, and Latin America’s admiration for Europe has often led to disappointment that has led Latin American governments to resist the influence and tutelage of Europe. Moreover, while at times both of them have seemed inclined to come closer, they have often been drawing away.
This panel will examine the status of the partnership between Europe and Latin America, as well as other topics relevant to the countries on both sides of the Atlantic.
