SUMMARY:GSAS Workshop on Pre-Modern State and Empires: "The Molossian expansion: control and identity mechanism in the sanctuary of Dodona"
DESCRIPTION:
The emergence and development of states imply the use of different mechanisms to enhance the legitimacy of the elites. The aim of this talk is to show the role that the sanctuary of Dodona played in this process, first in the kingdom of Molossia and later in the Epirote Koinon. The material evidence of the shrine provides enough data to see that the evolution of the sacred site was narrowly connected to the historical development of Epirus.

	<drupal-media data-entity-type="media" data-entity-uuid="c9654039-568d-44fc-9567-5a2ba0bc64b8" alt="imp"></drupal-media>

Speaker: Diego Chapinal Heras -RCC Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of the Classics at Harvard University

Sponsor: RCC; Harvard University Department of the Classics.
