The RCC Director's Jean Monnet ad Personam Chair in European Union Law and Government at Harvard University and the European club at the Harvard Kennedy School are proud to host former Secretary General of the World Trade Organization, Mr. Pascal Lamy and former Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Competition, Mr. Joaquín Almunia in a discussion with European students at Harvard University.
With the U.S. midterm elections being held Tuesday, November 6, and the European Parliament elections coming up in May 2019, the effects of globalization have been at the forefront of political debates as its negative side is seen as one of the drivers of the wave of populiism we are seing around the world, while at the same time, the need of an interconnected, globalized economy is defended as one of the keys to mantaining strong democratic regimes around the world.
Our guest speakers will share their expertise and explore the effect of global trade on the current European political landscape and then open the floor for questions and interaction with the students.
