The purpose of this talk is to discuss the evolution from crowdlending to marketplace lending practices in EU financial markets. Undoubtedly, the lack of a harmonized regulatory framework at EU level has created a number of regional and local market dynamics worth considering for regulatory policies, which keep lagging well behind market practice.

In the framework of this groundbreaking (r)evolution in the retail finance industry, several questions are worth considering for borrowers, investors, marketplaces, supervisors, and legislators alike: (i) role of marketplaces in profiling, pricing, and proposing matches between borrowers and investors; (ii) their disclosure and conflicts of interest as agents of both investors and borrowers; and (iii) solvency and macroprudential risks.

Speaker: Manuel J. Martínez López, Ph.D. Candidate in law at the Complutense University of Madrid.

Sponsors: RCC; Jean Monnet ad Personam Chair in European Union Law and Government.
