Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout life. During sleep, our body works to support healthy brain function and maintain physical and mental health. Getting inadequate sleep over time impairs proper cognitive and behavioral function, affecting how we think, react, work, learn, and get along with others. Furthermore, unhealthy sleep increases the risk of many health complications, including heart disease, kidney disease, hypertension, diabetes, stroke, and obesity. If you have ever wondered, why do we sleep, what happens in our brain while we sleep, or which are the consequences of not sleeping well, enjoy this talk!
