Some observers have argued that the European Union is seen as a declining power on the world stage. In her book *The Brussels Effect: How the European Union Rules the World* (Oxford University Press, 2020), Anu Bradford argues that the EU remains an influential superpower by influencing global corporations to play by their rules and shaping critical policy in areas, such as data privacy, consumer safety, environmental protection, and competition rules.
