Quantum theory describes the laws that govern the microscopic realm in our universe from atoms and molecules to light. In recent years scientists have realized that an array of technologies can benefit from previously untapped quantum effects.

Quantum computers have been one of the most popular disruptions, which can outperform the most powerful supercomputers that we could ever build. Potential applications of this technology in industry and business abound: ultra-secure cryptography, quantum machine learning algorithms to enhance big data analysis, supply chain management, finance, more secure blockchain technologies, drug design, etc.

In this seminar, we will learn the very basics of how quantum computers work and gauge the potential business opportunities of the upcoming quantum revolution.

**Speaker:** Oscar Viyuela RCC Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Physics at Harvard University.

**Sponsors:** RCC; Science@RCC; Department of Physics at Harvard University.
