Last week, the European Parliament and the Council reached a political agreement on the long-awaited [Digital Markets Act](https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__harvard.us11.list-2Dmanage.com_track_click-3Fu-3De542f0e8ae082c95dd5a911ab-26id-3D5a063139cd-26e-3Ddf8ec23b09&d=DwMFaQ&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=pTbR_WZUyO5mmKOOlgeC58qwNlXQTkfHQm0geIk1J0I&m=W2XRCMbFMjVZB9Im7ydRNiSYsWBz2vNDG1yXcjrEZaZIuAzrcVDl2_c9rlLr4NWB&s=vpWKqy72Ro6eLa2qIF3aGMG_cfeuomENL36PaVp7U-k&e=), the latest move in the EU’s attempt to tackle market power of Big Tech companies. In parallel with this initiative, the Directorate-General for Competition of the EU Commission is currently pursuing several investigations concerning digital markets. In particular, the EU Commission is looking into whether Apple's rules concerning the distribution of apps through the App Store breach EU competition law. It seems therefore that the EU is leading the fight against tech giants’ market power. Will such efforts be enough to contrast the growing market power of digital players? What will be the role of the DMA and of antitrust laws, respectively? Is antitrust law still fit for these purposes or do we need a new toolkit?

Through a conversation with leading scholars and practitioners of the EU – Prof. Damien Geradin (Geradin Partners and Tilburg University), Prof. Pinar Akman (University of Leeds) and Michele Piergiovanni (Cabinet Expert at the European Commission) – this event will explore recent developments in the EU regulation of Big Tech companies.
