Color and Constitutionalism at the End of Spain's American Empire

RCC is pleased to announce this presentation by Professor José Antonio Piqueras of the Universitat Jaume I (Castellón de la Plana), a distinguished Spanish historian who has published widely in the history of Spain, Cuba, and colonial Latin America.  A recent work is the co-edited volume published this fall by Duke: State of Ambiguity: Civic Life and Culture in Cuba's First Republic.  His talk comes from his current research on the conflicts over race and citizenship in the era of the Spanish American Revolutions and the Cortes of Cadiz.

Professor Piqueras' presentation will be in English.  Q&A will be in Spanish and English with translation.
